‘One of Liverpool’s greatest European nights. Now go and win it!’ – Carragher

first_imgJamie Carragher has hailed Liverpool’s stunning Europa League comeback as ‘one of their greatest European nights’ and has urged the team to crown Jurgen Klopp’s first season in charge with silverware.Anfield was rocking on Thursday night as fans witnessed Istanbul-level drama, with Liverpool coming back from 2-0 and then 3-1 down to beat Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund to seal their place in the Europa League semi-final.Goals from Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho and Mamadou Sakho had the hosts level before Dejan Lovren netted a stoppage-time winner, sealing a 4-3 win on the night and a 5-4 aggregate victory. The Merseysiders will learn of their semi-final opponents in Friday’s Europa League draw, and Liverpool legend Carragher says they must now focus on bringing home the cup.“It was one of Liverpool’s greatest European nights,” the 2005 Champions League winning hero told the Sports Bar.“We’ve got a semi-final next, that could be a great night and, if we get there, the final will be a great night too.“People say that winning the Europa League gives you Champions League, but winning the trophy is most important.“It’s very hard for Liverpool to win the top trophies, the Premier League and Champions League, at the moment.“So the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League are the more realistic trophies for Jurgen Klopp, and he’s been to one final already this season.“People go on about the Champions League too much for me. Liverpool got there with Brendan Rodgers and it was a waste of time, to be honest. We got battered and we rested players at the Bernabeu.“The most important thing is winning it!“Winning a trophy for Jurgen Klopp would get him off to a great start in his first year and hopefully he can get Liverpool back up to challenging for [league] titles and competing for the Champions League.”MISSED THE GOALS?Dortmund strike early to open up leadOrigi, Coutinho and Sakho pull Liverpool levelDejan Lovren’s late winnerALSO WATCH: Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’last_img
