Palma26 $2,092,594 5 8 12 5 25% THREE FRONTRUNNERS FOR HORSE OF THE YEARVino Rosso, Bricks and Mortar or Mitole? Which will be Horse of the Year 2019?Each has credentials worthy of consideration. Vino Rosso captured Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic; Bricks and Mortar completed an unbeaten year on grass with his triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Turf; and Mitole, the fastest sprinter in the world, numbered four daylight Grade I wins among 2019’s six victories, the only flaw on his brilliant record showing in the Vanderbilt Handicap when he finished third after hitting the gate at the start.“In a year with no dominant three-year-old, and the older horses kind of taking turns beating each other, Bricks and Mortar was the king of the turf division from the time he won the Pegasus (World Cup Turf Invitational at Gulfstream Park last January) until yesterday, when he won the Breeders’ Cup Turf,” noted private clocker and bloodstock agent Gary Young. That completed a string of six straight victories, five of them Grade I’s. With yesterday’s decision, he earned $2,200,000 increasing his bankroll to $7,085,650 from 11 wins in 13 races.“Mitole would be in the mix, too,” Young said, adding the caveat “that it’s been a while since a sprinter got Horse of the Year, although he did beat McKinzie in the Met Mile.“Ghostzapper stretched out from being a one-turn horse to becoming Horse of the Year (in 2004) and Kotashaan (1993) was the last turf runner to be named Horse of the Year, so the race is pretty wide open among those three horses.” BREEDERS’ CUP BRINGS OUT BEST IN MIRAHMADIFrank Mirahmadi hit a grand slam as a rookie calling the Breeders’ Cup championship races for the first time.No flaws, no flubs, no flounders. His passion and love of the game is innate, but he raised the bar over the weekend.“It was just an unforgettable experience,” said the 52-year-old Mirahmadi, a local boy who grew up in Beverly Hills. “Many times people have asked what my favorite moments in race calling have been, and there have been some at various venues I’d consider close, but that’s no longer a question.“Calling the Breeders’ Cup races has been by far the highlight of my career and something I could have never dreamed of. My goal was to perform at my best, to do justice to the connections, the horses, the fans.“That was my priority. I felt a lot of pressure, but at the same time, I told myself to stay focused and do the best I can. I’m very pleased.”Ditto all around. $4 MILLION MANDATORY RAINBOW PICK SIX JACKPOT PAYOUT POSSIBLE TODAYWith the prospect of a massive mandatory payout pool of $4 million a strong possibility, Santa Anita’s popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot proved elusive yet again last Sunday, resulting in a Jackpot carryover of $395,207 into today’s nine-race program. As the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday offered fans a separate Pick Six pool with a one dollar minimum, there is mandatory Jackpot payout today, closing day.FRIENDS WELCOME MOST COURAGEOUS BARRY ABRAMSThere were miles of smiles after yesterday’s third race.Barry Abrams was coming to the Winner’s Circle. The former trainer, who has gallantly battled throat cancer for 15 years, is part owner as Bardy Farm of Mo Forza, winner of the Grade II Qatar Twilight Derby at odds of nearly 19-1. Onofrio Pecoraro, who campaigns as OG Boss, also owns a share of the three-year-old colt. The throng waited anxiously but patiently for Abrams to amble down the Club House steps and the ramp leading to his destination.Upon arrival, emotional hugs and kisses beyond the norm were the order of the day. Abrams, who turns 66 come March 4, was 51 when stricken with inoperable throat cancer. Ten years later and 60 pounds lighter, some of it weight from the throat cancer doctors ultimately had no choice but to remove, Abrams was still doing what he loved best, coming to the race track and training Thoroughbreds. Now, though further diminished physically, the native of Minsk, Russia, once a bear of a man at 6-4, 315 pounds, is courageous beyond question, not given to soliciting sympathy for his plight, maintains his sense of humor, and is generous without making a fuss about it.Take it from trainer Richard Baltas, who assisted Abrams in his barn operation during Barry’s five-month recovery from surgery in 2011.“He’s very kind with a good heart,” Baltas recalled. “Years ago I wanted to leave Louisiana and come to California, but I needed a job. Barry didn’t quibble. He simply asked me, ‘How much do you want to make?’ and that was it.“He came to my wedding on Feb. 26, 2011, when he was sick with cancer. He’s done many kind and generous things for me. He took me and my wife (Debby) to Las Vegas, bought the plane tickets, even bought us tickets to shows. We saw ‘Jersey Boys.’”Adds Abrams’ wife, Dyan: “Barry is so kind and helpful. If you needed the shirt off his back, he’d give it to you . . . He’s one of the good ones. He’s got a good heart and a good soul.”     FINISH LINES: Joel Rosario, at the apex of a career that assuredly has him bound for   the Hall of Fame, will ride on a regular basis at Santa Anita’s Winter Meet that starts Dec. 26 before heading to Kentucky when the Keeneland meet begins in April, according to his agent, Ron Anderson.LATEST CONTENT FROM XBTV:XBTV Sunday: What to Watch for at Santa Anita Park on November 3rd, 2019FEATURES:A Candid Conversation With Trainer Peter EurtonWORKOUTS:Draft Pick (Outside) and Mo Mississippi (Eurton) 11-03-19Heros Reward (Outside) and Malibu Star (Baffert) 11-03-19Defense Wins (Outside) and Fore Left (O’Neill) 11-03-19Stackin Silver (Outside) and Gidgetta (Baltas) 11-03-19Eclair (Outside) and Map Maker (Baffert) 11-03-19 26% MANDATORY PICK SIX JACKPOT PAYOUT IS POSSIBLE 20 Richard Baltas59 $336,116 12 7 1 58% ABRAMS A WINNER IN SANTA ANITA WINNERS’ CIRCLE $316,951 12 47% J.C. Tanganga went from work experience at Tottenham cutting grass to star

| kpatfjklhxss

first_imgJAPHET TANGANGA is now cutting it in the Premier League with Tottenham. But just three years ago he was cutting the grass at the North London club’s training ground.2 Japhet Tanganga went from work experience at Tottenham cutting the training ground grass to a first team star in three yearsThe versatile rookie, 21, has blossomed into one of Tottenham and the top-flight’s most promising defenders after a work-experience stint with groundstaff at their Hotspur Way complex when he was 18.He said: “It was a great week of experience. It gave me a real insight into many things about life and football.“Honestly, it was just great seeing how good the training ground was. It was right in front of me, but it was all down to the guys – the attention and work they put in during the rain, during the cold, when it was hot.“For me, it was just a learning experience. It really showed me a lot of things that if I maybe wouldn’t have seen at that time.“It was a great experience, I enjoyed it. It showed me another side of life, it showed me work ethic. It showed me how passionate they were with their jobs. And along the way I met some great people.“They spoke with me in different ways about their life, about working at Tottenham and how much of a pleasure it is.”Just many things that for me I took away and used in everyday life to help me as a person and also a footballer. It was great for me.“I met some amazing people who I will forever remember so when I see them I always say hello, stop by, have a chat and ask them how they’re doing.“A lot of them are proud of me to see how far I’ve come, to be in the first team. It’s amazing.”2Tanganga has hardly let the grass grow under his feet since manager Hose er, sorry Jose Mourinho handed him his Prem debut in January’s 1-0 home defeat by Liverpool. He had just started to establish himself in the Spurs squad when football was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.Tanganga has moved back in with his family during the lockdown.Asked if he is doing the gardening, he said: “Not at the moment but outside my mum has just cut down all the weeds. She’s been begging me to help her out because she says I have experience.“At my girlfriend’s house, they’ve recently laid some grass and some plants. Before the lockdown, sometimes I’d go round there and help them planting flowers and stuff.“But at the moment my mum’s just done the weeds so there’s nothing for me to do.”Tanganga is the latest Spurs academy seedling to flower in the first team, following in the footsteps of Harry Kane and Harry Winks. The defender added: “For me, bringing through academy players is always important at any club. It shows all the work that the academy has done to produce a player.“It’s very important for Tottenham and for every club to produce some academy players. NRL announces salary cap changes

May 26, 2020
| ukdxvefpkebg

first_imgThe NRL today announced changes to the salary cap.Chief Operating Officer Jim Doyle said the changes follow a comprehensive review of the salary cap rules involving consultation with clubs, players, player managers, corporate partners, fans, media and other stakeholders.Mr Doyle said the changes, to take effect from 2015, will include:•             Making it easier for clubs to put long serving players into careers with those clubs  as they approach the end of their playing days;•             Increasing the veteran player allowance by up to 50 per cent.  This move recognises that clubs and players should be rewarded for long service.  The allowance will now apply to players serving six years with a club (previously 8 years.) The allowance will be on a sliding scale with a maximum $250,000 per club in 2015 and $300,000 in 2016;•             Promoting player welfare with a new allowance for clubs who need to field a player outside their roster to replace a player who has suffered a concussion;•             Allowing clubs to exclude termination payments from the salary cap where the club has approval from the NRL to terminate a player for behavioural issues which have brought the game into disrepute;•             Regulating transfer fees – either by including them in the cap or through other mechanisms. However the June 30 transfer window will remain in place;•             Giving the NRL CEO discretion to compete with other codes to recruit or retain players in exceptional circumstances;•             Simplifying the salary cap structure by rolling in the existing marquee player allowance and the sponsor servicing allowance into the base cap;•             Developing a rookie player system for the next CBA to improve the welfare of young players and provide a talent pathway;•             Introducing a new reporting regime to monitor football department spending. The changes are subject to formal negotiation and agreement with the RLPA.Mr Doyle said the 2015 changes were in addition to the reforms introduced this year which included an increase in the second tier salary cap and new measures to improve the governance of the salary cap.“The salary cap has played a key role in making our game so competitive and strong,” Mr Doyle said.“In fact, since the cap was introduced, all 16 clubs have finished in the top four – and nine different clubs have won the premiership.“But we recognise we need to keep updating the salary cap to make it more efficient and these changes are aimed at keeping our competition even while ensuring clubs remain financially viable.”last_img read more

Setién comes out with white – AS.com

May 14, 2020

| twjrgepwwsir

first_imgDiego Martínez has been done a job. Internalized as he had Barça de Valverde, who painted his face on the first lap in Los Cármenes, the new one is an unknown. Setién has not guaranteed the continuity of 4-3-3, although it is difficult to imagine another drawing in a team that has almost no centrals and that, in addition, has run out of center forward. Because in the last week of Barça, not only has the Valverde era ended. Luis Suarez will be four months off. A capital absence. The Uruguayan has participated in 41% of Barça’s goals this year. The expectation is maximum. TVMovistar LaLiga This is nothing more than words, ”said Setién after giving his endless inaugural address last Tuesday. In five days, and after having proclaimed himself a radical cruiserie and having put himself at the feet of Messi; having gotten into the rounds and taking his boys to dinner, Quique has to go to the events in his official debut as coach of Barcelona against Granada. Judging by his words, he will be brave. He knows better than anyone who has landed in Barça by philosophy and speech, not by curriculum. “When I have reached the teams where I have gone, I have only promised one thing: play well.” Quique cannot betray its principles. So a fanatic style, possession and fun coach is expected. For his taste for chess, it could be said that today against Granada he will go out with white. To the attack and to show that his story is not empty and has substance.last_img read more

Barça did not even tickle you while against Rodado he scored a bit justly annulled by pushing a looser Lenglet than expired custard and Raí minutes later shot to the post so that Neto rejected the subsequent shot at the mouth of Rodado’s cannon. A total disruption of a Barça in auger that had 45 minutes left to avoid a ridiculous capital. The ridiculous to dry ones could not be solved no matter how much it went back. To try the comeback, Setién contributed a pun to his system by introducing Alba by Carles Pérez, which Barça played with four sides. A rampage he tried to remedy by removing Riqui for Arthur. The change was noticed because in two minutes the Brazilian connected with De Jong, who served Griezmann the assistance of the goal of the tie. It was the first shot between the three clubs of Barça in 70 minutes and 20 were left to make up the embarrassment. And to help the cause, Setién gave entry to Arturo Vidal with ten minutes left. A final that lasted for six minutes that served Barcelona to define the game in another snatch of Griezmann in questionable position, but there was no VAR that corrected the alleged error, in the same way that the goal of Griezmann does not banish the feeling of embarrassment of the Blaugrana team. Two goals from Griezmann in the final match of the match, the second of them in the 94th minute and in a dubious position, allowed Setién to remain alive in the Cup after beating Ibiza 1-2. But Barça’s new project is still not enthusiastic and it lacks a lot of filming. The Blaugrana game was absolutely unpresentable against a Second B that touched the feat before a liner that touched the tragedy. The Setién effect was seriously questioned in one of the worst first hours of the game that is reminded of Barcelona in a long time. The new technician, true to his convictions, chose a revolutionary drawing. But likewise the match against Ibiza, of Second B, served him to realize that the cow does not give for more. And from the first day he made it clear that he is an expert in cows.He raised a defense of three centrals with a Lenglet that every day that passes is more alfeñique, accompanied by Sergi Roberto and Junior, two disasters. From there on, a series of players who had the ball most of the time but got Pablo Alfaro, a local coach, to change the goalkeeper because in 45 minutes he was not shot once. Fati and Pérez lost all their duels, De Jong did not appear, the party did not interest Griezmann and Rakitic in the least. Y Riqui Puig was a drama even in defense, where he wrinkled at the shot of Pérez who was the first goal of Ibiza after playing in Caballe.
